Adam speaks with Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, who has experienced money in politics both as a leading scholar of constitutional law and as a state legislator. They discuss how he put his theories into practice once he became a candidate and a legislator, how he was able to win a recent congressional primary despite being outspent, and how today's 'wealth primaries' act a lot like the 'white primaries' from the past. Plus, we ask him what he would change if he had a magic wand.

We invited Mark Glaze in discuss how guns, money, lobbying, and politics are connected. As the former executive director of Every Town for Gun Safety and the current executive director of the Voter Participation Center, Mark explains where the National Rifle Association gets its money, how it spends it to achieve the policies it wants, and how you can get involved to make sure your representatives listen to the majority of their constituents when it comes to gun safety laws. This episode originally aired October 8, 2015.

More than 100 days ago, President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy at the Supreme Court. The Senate won't even hold hearings, let alone a vote, on whether to confirm him. Adam is joined this week by Adam Lioz of Demos to talk about who Judge Garland is, why he can't seem to get a hearing, and what that means for the future of money in politics and our democracy. This episode was also broadcast live on Facebook, if you want to see the two Adams in action.

This week, we take inspiration from one of our favorite podcasts, Buzzfeed's No One Knows Anything, which debunks so-called common knowledge with real talk. Adam and Laura bust four myths about money in politics: money doesn't matter in elections; public financing doesn't work; public financing makes government more polarized; and overturning Citizens United will solve our problems. Then they ask: so, does anyone know anything about money in politics?
